DevMan

DevMan™, a suite of software development and configuration management tools for NeXTStep, offered a solution specifically targeted at the problems of group software development. DevMan made it easy to scale up to full-fledged NeXTStep application development, delivery, and maintenance. It automated the essential configuration management tasks associated with creating and supporting complex software systems:

• Sharing source files—such as programming language text, nib files, images, or documentation—among developers
• Keeping past versions of files and of entire collections or configurations of files
• Continuing work on the released version of the software while others simultaneously proceed with active development
• Establishing fine-grained access controls to ensure that a large group could develop the software, but only a small group could release versions of it
