co-Xist Pencom
co-Xist, a compete implementation of the X Window System (X11R5) for NEXTSTEP, allowed users to access hundreds of X-based applications on hardware platforms including HP, Sun, DEC. and IBM. Customer-proven and robust, co-Xist offers a range of display options for optimum performance. To meet the varied needs of end users, co-Xist came in three cost-effective packages. With the most complete user and development environment available, users could build their own X and Motif applications or compile existing source to run native.

You could choose from several related products to assemble an X environment that suited your needs:

co-Xist Runtime System a fully functional X Window system for the NeXTcomputer. The co-Xist Runtime System included the X server and a number of standard X clients, fonts and manual pages.

co-Xist Developer's Extension an add-on to the co-Xist Runtime System, the co-Xist Developer's Extension contained the libraries and include files found in the standard MIT X11R4 release of X Windows. Pencom also included sample programs for you to use in learning how to develop X Windows applications.

Motif Runtime System a fully functional OSF/Motif 1.1.1 environment for the NeXT computer. The Motif Runtime System included the Motif Window Manager (mwm), User Interface Language (UIL), and manual pages.

Motif Developer's Extension an add-on to the Motif Runtime System, the Motif Developers Extension contained the libraries and included files necessary to develop Motif-based applications. Pencom also included sample programs for use in learning how to develop Motif applications.

Digital Librarian Documentation complete sets of X11R4 and Motif documentation was available in NeXTStep's Digital Librarian format.

System Requirements co-Xist and Motif required NeXTstep Release 2.0 or higher. NeXTstep 2.1 was recommended for best performance and required for support of color X Windows applications. All NeXT hardware platforms were supported.
