i56 DSP and sound card
i56, was a DSP and sound card for computers running NeXTSTEP. It fully compatible with the NeXT computer DSP and audio in/out and served as a complete replacement for the DSP and audio subsystem that was missing from the 486-based computers. You could continue to use your favorite NeXTSTEP DSP software and peripherals with this 33-megahenz DSP56001-based PC card and its NeXTStep sound and DSP driver.
As a sound card, i56 provided line-in/line-out, microphone input and headphone output, all in 16-bil stereo with up to a 48-kilohetz sampling rate. The i56 used one short ISA slot and came with 24 kilobytes of zero wait-state RAM and a NeXT compatible DSP port. Use of the same memory model as the NeXT computer kept the i56 compatible with existing NeXTSTEP sound and DSP software, such as Sound Kit, Music Kit, and the array-processing functions.
