Transcribe

The Transcribe application implements enhanced Dictaphone-style recording, playback, and editing from a NeXT computer or NeXTStep for Intel Processors sound board microphone input.

Features included: adjustable pause rewind, CD-like audible fast forward and rewind, up to 200 percent or 50 percent playback speed adjustment without pitch change, voice-activated recording with adjustable sensitivity, record insertions, real-time multiband tone controls and small sound files with adjustable compression. Time markers could be added to dictations and associated with arbitrary text or ID numbers and playback and record operations (can be performed on areas delineated by the markers.

Transcribe also included an integrated transcription text editor with keyboard control of sound playback, a dictation file browser and a marker editor. A Distributed Objects interface allows another application to control loading of dictation tiles.

The available serial interface hardware allowed record and playback functions to be controlled by standard Sanyo or Lanier dictation fool pedals and microphones.

Transcribe was for NeXT computers or Intel processors with sound board, NeXTStep Release 3.1 or later. A serial interface to a dictation foot pedal and microphone was available.
