Peacock
NOMOS Corporation had created a 3-D intensity-modulating conformal radiation therapy system, called Peacock, based on NeXTStep. Peacock provided a linear accelerator with the capability of automatically creating and implementing a plan for treating a target of almost any size or shape in almost any anatomical location. The product featured a planning optimizer that algorithmically determined a treatment plan based on physician goals.
Peacock consisted of:
- Peacock Plan, the NeXTStep-bascd 3-D treatment planing and viewing program, which was more user friendly than any other available at the time and automatically created an optimized conformal treatment plan
- Peacock controller, a microprocessor-based unit that translated the treatment plan created by Peacock Plan into the control signals needed to drive the implementation system
- Peacock MIMC (Mutileaf, Intensity Modulating Collimator), the physical delivery unit, which mounted on existing linear accelerators to implement the Peacock conformal plan
NOMOS produces were sold worldwide by NOMOS Corporation and included hardware, software, installation, training and service.
CAUTION; Peacock was limited by United Stales law to investigational uses.
