SplitBuilder
SplitBuilder was a system for
sending large files via NeXTmail. The large file was
automatically divided into several smaller files that were
mailed as individual NeXTmail attachments. The receiver
could easily assemble the smaller files by drag and drop to
restore the original large file.
No knowledge of UNIX was needed to be able to restore the
original file.
Applications, large color images and sounds were examples
of files that might break the size barrier somewhere on the
net. SplitBuilder was your solution to the problem with
NeXT Mail where you often wanted to send attachments that
are so big that some gateways on the net refused to pass it
on because of their size.
Features
- Easy to use by drag-and-drop document to split it into smaller pieces which size is user-definable
- Mail pieces will be sent via NeXT Mail individually and automatically
- Recipient of the pieces can easily assemble them by drag-and- dropping them to restore the file
- No knowledge of UNIX is needed
- Contains three different applications: (1) SplitBuilder divides big files into smaller pieces (called "splits") that can be sent by NeXT Mail; (2) SplitMailer automatically create one letter for each split file, inserts the split file and sends the letters. You can even specify when you want the letters to be sent and the interval between letters.; (3) SplitReceiver puts all files together on the receiver’s machine. It is not copy protected and can automatically be sent in the first letter by the SplitMailer application.
