ExpressOCR

ExpressOCR used the optical character recognition (OCR) technology that underlied several of Caere's retail products. It was comprised of an OCR technology made up of two components: (1) the AnyFont OCR Engine, which recognizes document images at 300 dpi and above, and (2) the AnyFax OCR Engine, a neural net technology, which recognizes images below 300 dpi. Typical fax documents are transmitted at 200 x 200 dpi or 200 x 100 dpi. By utilizing the AnyFont/AnyFax Engines in our application programming interface, integrators could fully insert Caere's OCR technology directly into their own NEXTSTEP application.

Also included was fully integrated spell checking for English and 11 Western European languages. In addition, they integrated Caere's proprietary AnyPage dynamic auto-threshholding technology, which works with gray or colored image backgrounds, and their proprietary Supercompression technique, which reduced text-images five to eight times beyond traditional compression algorithms. ExpressOCR was available as a Multiple Architecture Binary and could be embedded in PaperSight.

Features:

  • ExpressOCR used the latest OCR technology from the Award winning Caere Corporation OCR which won many awards in the Windows and Macintosh Environments.
  • ExpressOCR recognized character sets of 11 European Languages making it a truly international product.
  • ExpressOCR gave the user much better control of his/her available options in input and output control than any competitor. For example, output could be put directly into the Paste buffer to eliminate key strokes in depositing into your word processor of choice.
  • ExpressOCR used a built in dictionary as a spell checker to ensure the highest degree of accuracy.
  • ExpressOCR was available in three flavors.
a. An Application which ran as a Service.
b. A programmer's API which could be used by other developers.
c. The OCR could be embedded in PaperSight to give a high quality image management and document control product which allowed autoindexing of scanned documents.
