OCR Servant
OCR Servant was an optical character recognition (OCR) utility based on omnifont technology that made text recognition on your NEXTSTEP computer quick and easy. It was not necessary to "train" the system to recognize characters. One could select a region of text from a displayed image or an entire file in the File Viewer and then start OCR Servant simply by selecting it from the Services menu.
OCR Servant recognized text and then displayed the text in its built-in text editor. You could then edit the text, check spelling, set fonts, adjust the layout of the text, copy and paste the text to your favorite word processor, or take advantage of other services that accept text as input.
OCR Servant recognized most common fonts and typestyles at speeds from 40 to over 200 characters per second with an accuracy rare of up to 100 percent. It supported character sizes from 8 to 36 points at resolutions between 200 and 400 dpi. OCR Servant converted scanned documents, high-resolution faxes, and TIFF images into ASCII text and saved text in Rich Text Format.
