eXTRAREAD
eXTRAREAD Version 2.0, GS Corporation's sophisticated optical character recognition (OCR) application, included a number of highly advanced features, which greatly automate the task of performing OCR on multiple complex documents. eXTRAREAD accepted fax and TIFF documents and translates them into Rich Text Format (RTF) documents. eXTRAREAD was smart enough to preserve the formatting of the original document, including fonts, tabs, underlines, and holds, and could even take multiple-column documents and string the text together in the proper sequence.
eXTRAREAD included a scanner driver for the EPSON ES series scanners so that users could scan up to 30 legal-sized documents at a time with EPSON's document feeder. eXTRAREAD will then automatically recognize the files. In addition, users drag and drop multiple files into a file queue for batch processing of pre-existing files. It's also possible to reorder the files in the queue for special rush jobs.
A dual Preview Window allowed for easy proofing of the recognized text against the original scanned or faxed document, and you could even edit recognized documents while eXTRAREAD was still working on others in the file queue. eXTRAREAD will soon support a Manual Markup mode so that you could scan and process sections of documents that cover less than a full page of space. This is an ideal solution for forms-based OCR.
Because eXTRAREAD Version 2.0 was a fully multithreading application, users are able co perform multiple tasks at the same time without affecting the speed or performance of the whole recognition process.
